Dr. Jerry W. Storz spent decades teaching leadership and ethics, and training nonprofit and church boards across North America and abroad. He now shares that experience through his book and through direct work with boards that want to govern well.
Jerry Storz first watched board service up close as a child, in the joys and struggles his own parents faced as members of a small church board. That early view stuck with him, and it eventually shaped a career spent almost entirely inside faith-based organizations — teaching, training, and consulting on what makes a board actually work.
He holds an EdD in Organizational Leadership from Argosy University, and spent over a decade as Program Director for Christian Educational Ministries and Leadership & Ethics at Nazarene Bible College, where he taught leadership, organizational behavior, ethics, and ministry practice. He continues as adjunct faculty at Pacific Rim Christian University and has taught at Colorado Christian University, Southern Nazarene University, and Barclay College.
Alongside teaching, Jerry has served as a faith-based nonprofit board trainer and consultant, leading leadership seminars across North America and internationally, including train-the-trainer work in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He served as President of the Christian Leadership Alliance in Denver from 2015–2018, after two years on its board.
Written as a devotional and discussion guide, this book pairs short scriptural reflections with practical board governance tips gathered over years of watching faith-based boards up close — some members clear on their role, others not. Each of the thirty entries is meant to be read and discussed one at a time, so a board can work through it together, one meeting at a time.
Many churches use it as teaching time — working through one chapter a month so the board reflects together between meetings. — paraphrased from a reader reviewFind it on Amazon
